Neochori – Afetes

The trail Neochori – Afetes follows the course of the old cobbled path, which in a large part has been replaced by the modern asphalt road. From the old, wide cobbled path, only a small part is maintained, mainly in the ravines, while the trail uses some small detours on dirt roads to avoid the asphalt road.

The route starts from Neochori square. We go downhill and enter a concrete road. From the cemetery of the village we enter a path that passes through the stone bridge of Topalis. We ascend softly to the asphalt, crossing a nice pine forest. We follow the asphalt, we pass the Agrigianni winery and just before we reach the junction to Argalasti (Argalasti Delta) we make a small detour along an old dirt road.

Immediately after the Argalasti Delta we make another small detour on the right, in an alley inside an estate, where the wide cobblestone path is preserves under the soil. We cross the asphalt and continue in an alley and then along a path crossing a wet meadow. Here we also can see the damaged cobbled path. We regain the asphalt, which we leave immediately to enter a path on the left, which descends near the left side of a ravine.

We have now entered the outskirts of Afetes. We cross a paved road and after a short section on a cobbled path, we end up in Afetes square, in front of the parish church of Timios Prodromos.

Tips

The route is fairly well marked, however, attention should be paid to the intersections on the asphalt.
We will not find water on the way.
Both Afetes and Neochori are traditional settlements, with beautiful squares and old parish churches.

Warnings

In the middle of the route, we run through level meadows, which in spring will probably can be flooded and mudy.
Along the various roads of the route, we will find large beehive installations.
