Platanias – Mavri Petra

The trail Platanias-Mavri Petra provides the connection between Platanias, a touristic village of the Aegean Sea, to Mavri Petra, a fishermen village of the Pagasitikos Gulf. The area along the route is very sparsely populated and the small settlements in Mikro and Chondri Ammos do not offer serious services.

In order to cross from Platanias to the Pagasitikos we will benefit from the newest rural road network. There are two small sections on paths before the two beaches, Mikro and Chondri Ammos.

We start from the road center of Platanias and specifically from the small information center of the environmental association “Sepiada”. We walk on the coastal road of the settlement, which is the main commercial road. At the end, the road becomes a pedestrian pathway paved with cobblestones and it ends on the small beach Skoura.

We enter an earth path that crosses a small olive grove and immediately ascend over an rocky outcrop of the coastline. The path is clean and wide along its entire length and a part is cobbled. With a short downhill section we reach the sandy beach of Mikro.

We walk on the beach until we reach the asphalt road. We ascend the asphalt road until we find a junction with a dirt road on the left. We follow this dirt road and we will continue on its main axis, ignoring various small branches. In about 3 km the road ends: with a short path we descend to the beach of Chondri Ammos.

The arc of the beach is covered by white medium-sized pebbles. We walk along the coast, passing by several small, old buildings in our right hand. This coastal walk ends in front of a dirt road. This 800m long dirt road connects to the area’s main dirt road.

We follow this dirt road for 3.1km without deviating on the various intersections. The dirt road leads us to the open bay of Agios Andreas. At the last branch we can choose whether we will end up in Agios Andreas or Mavri Petra: both settlements are located on the provincial road Argalasti – Trikeri.

Tips

  • Water can be found only in Mikro, either in the spring (if the water tank overflows), or in the tavern of the settlement. You may not find people in Chondri Ammos.

Warnings

  • The route is marked only in the first section, up to Chondri Ammos, with Red Marks.
  • The route is particularly exposed to the sun, so take care to protect yourself.
  • The beaches of the route, especially Skoura and Mikro, are extremely tempting for a short swim. In summer, put in your backpack a towel and the like.
