Milina – Lafkos

The route starts from the village of Milina to end at the settlement of Lafkos. Although here this direction is described, this hike can also be combined with the southernmost connection in order to complete a fine loop trail. Although the whole loop trail is a long route, the slope is mild and with the in-between stop at Lafkos, non-experienced hikers and families with children can easily enjoy it.

After we pass next to the grand church of Panagia (Holy Mary), we follow a small tarmac road which very soon turns into a concrete alley. We then walk through the river-bed of a shallow ravine on our left-hand side. Immediately after we pass the stream, we find an earth alley on the right which will lead us upwards between some private properties.

This alley ends soon at the upper end of the village. From there we follow a wide and very well-maintained cobbled path, going mildly uphill. Very soon we find a path junction. It’s worth spending some minutes to follow the right branch which will take us to an old church located next to ruined watermill. After we return to the junction, we continue straight until we pass by a small shrine where we start some maneuvers. We now walk on a slope covered with majestic olive trees and we finally arrive at an open location. There we can quench our thirst from the refreshing water of the large fountain next to the old church of Panagia Messosporitisa.

We now walk uphill following the well-maintained stone-built trail, although covered with earth on its last part. Another concrete alley shows us the next narrow trail section which we follow walking straight. We soon cross a raveine over a stone bridge. Immediately after the ravine, a secondary road of the village leads us a little higher where we leave it behind in order to walk towards the town square of Lafkos following a wide cobbled path.
