Metochi – Chorto

The western route from Metochi to Chorto coincides with the old road section which was used by the mules, for the transport of local products between Argalasti and Chorto. The first part of this old cobbled street has been destroyed to a high extent, due to the construction of the main road. Nevertheless, just above Metochi and up to the coastline, it has been well-maintained and offers a nice experience to the visitors. Thus, we prefer to start our hike following this direction and not from Argalasti.

We start from Metochi and we firstly go uphill, following a narrow track. Very soon, we find the old connection between Argalasti and Chorto, beside a large concrete manhole. Then, we turn South and pass around an olive grove by walking on a narrow alley. This alley is an old cobbled street, hidden under the vegetation.

We continue our route going downhill, walking among beautiful olive groves, crossing the main road several times. After passing beside a cottage, located at the curve of the road, we follow a short but very well-maintained cobbled path. After the fountain of Dialetara, the path turns into a green alley and runs along the main ravine of the basin. We end on the coastline.

This route is very well-indicated with red marks on the rocks and on the trees.

    • Οne can combine this hike with the easternmost trail Metochi – Chorto to enjoy a long yet nice loop hike in the heart of the Mediterranean atmosphere.
    • At the road entrance of Metochi, there is the two-head fountain of the village, offering plenty of water.
