Agios Ioannis – Damouchari

The protected and fortified bay of Damouchari is the only natural port in the area of Agios Ioannis. The path that ran through this wild coast, although it has suffered losses from the road network, always offers a pleasant course, suitable for everyone. After a section on asphalt roads, the route descends by cobblestone path to the beautiful beach of Papa Nero.

The course starts from the parking lot of Damouchari. It follows the main asphalt road to Mouresi and leave it at the first junction, after 400 m on it. There it descends the narrowest, but also asphalt road that leads to Papa Nero. At just 150 m it leaves the road to descend steeply on a cement road that serves hostels. From the end of the small road, the route enters a nice cobbled path. With maneuvers it ends up at the impressive beach Papa Nero.

Then the course crosses the zone of Papa Nero settlement either from the sandy beach or from the overpassed paved road and continues on the well-made pedestrian/bicycle path that surrounds the coastline. It crosses the estuary of the Mavroutsa stream with a large metal bridge that rests on curved triangles. From here it continues along the coastal road of Agios Ioannis and reaches the parish church of the settlement and the small community square.

Tips

In Damouchari, there are nice taverns and the possibility of overnight during summer. On the contrary, in Papa Nero and Agios Ioannis, there is only a minimal service all year round.
